for the public use, and did also return a certificate of the same to
the clerk of the same county which is now on record:  And whereas
it is represented to this general assembly, that great inconveniencies
often occur, and may hereafter occur, to the inhabitants of
Miles' River Neck, for want of a small house at the ferry aforesaid
for the rendezvous of the ferrymen; therefore,

CHAP. 170.

    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the levy court of Talbot county are hereby authorised and directed
to empower and permit the inhabitants of Miles' River Neck to
put up a small house for the use of the ferry exclusively, provided
they may be of opinion that the erection of such house is requisite
and necessary for the public convenience.

                                     CHAP. CLXXI.
An Act to alter and change the Public Road leading from or near
    Miles' River Ferry to the Methodist Meeting-House in Talbot
    County.

Passed Dec. 25.
    WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly, by
sundry inhabitants of Miles' River Neck in Talbot county, that
great inconvenience does arise from the situation of the present
road leading from Miles' River Ferry to the Methodist meeting-house
near the gate of Edward Lloyd in said neck; therefore,
Preamble.
    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Obadiah Gairy, Bennett Bracoe, Henry Bullen, William Blake
and Andrew Skinner, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby
appointed commissioners to alter and change the public road that
leads from Miles' River Ferry to the Methodist meeting-house in
said neck, and in order for that purpose the said commissioners, or
a majority of them, are hereby authorised and empowered to lay
out, clear and open, at the expense of those persons whom they may
conceive benefitted thereby, in proportion as the benefit may arise
either to them or to their lands, a road not exceeding thirty feet
wide, clear of ditches, beginning at or near the said ferry and
running in the most convenient and direct course to or near the
Methodist meeting-house in said neck.

    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the aforesaid commissioners, or
a majority of them, are instructed to permit those persons through
whose land said road may run, or who may be considered benefitted
thereby, to clear and open said road with their own servants,
provided they do it on or before the first day of April, one thousand
eight hundred and twelve.

    4.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners, or a majority
of them, are hereby authorised to locate a new road in the 
aforesaid neck, beginning at the gate of Jacob Gibson's dwelling
plantation, and running through the woods in the most direct rout
through Bennet Bracoe's, Edward Lloyd's and Jacob Gibson's
lands, to his said Gibson's gate, at the plantation formerly belonging
to Colonel Hughes, and the expense of clearing and opening
the same to be assessed as the other roads.

    5.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners, or a majority
of them, shall and they are hereby directed and required to
make, or cause to be made, a plot of said roads when opened as
aforesaid, and shall make a return of the said plot, together with
a certificate of the courses of the said roads, to the clerk of Talbot
