BY THE SENATE,
February 2, 1872.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
We have received your message, proposing to appoint a
Joint Special Committee of three from the House, and two
from the Senate, to enquire into the cause of the disaster to
the ice-boats Chesapeake and Maryland, and whether such
disasters are to be attributed to incompetence on the part of the
management of said boats, or negligence on the part of the
officers and crews of said boats, and respectfully concur there-
in, and have appointed on the part of the Senate, Messrs.
Mr. Tuck submitted the following amendment to said mes-
sage :
"And we suggest that the Committee hold its sessions at
the seat of government, and have authority to send for per-
sons and papers."
On motion by Mr. Carroll,
The further consideration of said message was postponed
until Tuesday next.
Mr. Tuck presented the petition of one hundred and ten,
citizens of Anne Arundel county, praying the passage of a
law authorizing the Commissioners of said county to levy a
sum of money to erect a bridge across the South River, from
the land of A. Randall to that of Mrs. Lee.
Which was read and referred to Messrs. Tuck, Williams
and Wilson.
Mr. Claggett presented the petition of Daniel Baker and
others, praying the passage of a law to amend the charter of
the Turnpike Company of Washington county.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpor-
ations.
On motion by Mr. Carroll, it was
Ordered, That when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn to
meet on Monday next, at 12 o'clock.
On motion by Mr. Henry,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill, entitled an Act to repeal Article
XCV. of the Code of Public General Laws, title "Usury,"
and re-enact the same in an amended form.
On motion by Mr. Fields,
The Senate adjourned
