Mr. Earle submitted the following amendments (two-thirds
of all Senators concurring:)

Provided, however, that the said Powhatan Steamboat
Company shall pay into the Treasury of the State of Mary-
land, on or before the first day of April, 1870, the sum of
two thousand dollars, in full of all arrearages of taxes to
January 1st, 1870, otherwise this charter to be null and of
none effect.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the State doth hereby re-
serve to itself the right to amend or repeal this charter at
its pleasure.

Which were read and adopted.

Said bill was then read a second time as amended, and
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of Elizabeth Moran fora
pension.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of Lemuel H. Garrett
for a pension.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of May Wesner for a
pension.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Pensions.

Mr. Clarke, from the Select Committee, to whom was refer-
red House bill entitled an Act to lay off streets in Baltimore
county, adjoining Baltimore city, and to repeal certain sec-
tions inconsistent therewith, reported it without amendment.

Said bill was then read the second time.
On motion by Mr. Clarke,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to amend the Act of January session, 1855,
chapter 70, authorizing the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
Company to construct a road to the District of Columbia,
from apoint on the line of its road in Maryland, between
Knoxville and Monocacy Junction, through Frederick and
Montgomery counties.

Mr. Hyland presented the petition of Joseph S. Webster
and others, of Somerset county, against the passage of a law
to prohibit stake nets for the purpose of gilling fish in Wi-
comico river.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from Somer-
set, Wicomico and Dorchester counties.
