and so in proportion for every greater or less distance, as follows :

for every score of sheep or hogs, four cents; for every score of
cattle, eight cents; for every horse or mule, and his rider, pass-
ing in droves, whether led or rode, three cents each; for every
dearborn, chair, chaise, sled, or sleigh, with one horse, eight
cents; for every chariot, coach, stage, wagon, phseton, or chaise,
with two horses, sixteen cents; for either of the carriages last
mentioned, with four horses, twenty-five cents; for every other
carriage of pleasure, under whatsoever name it may go, the like
sums, according to the number of horses drawing the same; for
every cart or wagon whose wheels do not exceed the breadth of
four inches, for each horse, ass, mule, or ox drawing the same,
eight cents; for every cart or wagon, whose wheels exceed in
breadth four inches and not exceeding seven inches, for every
horse drawing the same, six cents; for every cart, wagon, or
carriage, the breadth of whose wheels shall exceed seven inches,
or which shall roll that breadth by reason of a difference in the
length of axletree, for every horse drawing the same, two cents:

fractions less than a mile, to be computed as a mile; one mile
and a part of a mile, to be computed as two, and so throughout
the whole distance; fractions of less than one cent to be charged
as a cent; the fractional part of the road over thirty miles
within the limits of the State, to be computed as five miles, and
tolls charged accordingly.

121. A deduction of one-third shall be made on the tolls
charged in the preceding section, in favor of all wheel carriages
whose track shall be clearly within the usual track of five feet,
a deduction of one-half tolls in favor of all wheel carriages
whose track shall be clearly outside the usual track of five feet,
or whose axles so vary in length as that one pair of wheels
track the usual five feet, and the other pair of wheels track
clearly outside; a deduction of two-thirds in favor of all wheel
carriages whose track shall be of the one pair of wheels clearly
outside of the usual track of five feet, and of the other pair of
wheels outside of it; Provided, that wheel carriages of the last
description, whose width of tire shall enable them to roll eight
inches on each side, shall pass toll free.

122. The superintendent may commute the rates of toll with
any person, by taking a certain sum annually in lieu of the tolls
aforesaid.
