gatherers, the superintendent shall pay the same into the trea-
sury of the State.
114. The treasurer shall receive the same and keep an account
thereof, to be denominated on the treasury books " The "United
States' Road Fund;" and the money constituting said fund shall
be applied solely and exclusively to the preservation, repair
and improvement of that part of said road within the limits of
this State.
115. The superintendent shall set up at proper and convenient
distances, directions to caution all conductors and drivers of
carriages on said road that they shall, at all times, pass on the
left of each other, under the penalty of two dollars for each
offence.
116. If any of the toll-gatherers shall unreasonably delay
or hinder any passenger or traveller at any of the gates, or
shall demand or receive more toll than is established by law, he
shall for each offence forfeit to the party injured the sum of
twenty dollars.
117. If any person shall wilfully throw down or otherwise
injure any of the walls, bridges, culverts, or other works on said
road, or shall otherwise wilfully injure or obstruct the passage
of said road unnecessarily, he shall forfeit for every offence not
less than five nor more than fifty dollars.
118. The superintendent shall divide said road into sections of
not less than one mile, nor more than three, and after having
given three weeks' notice in the Cumberland newspapers for
sealed proposals for the repair and preservation of said road
shall let the same in sections, by contract, to the lowest bidders;
Provided, said bidders shall be able to give security for the per-
formance of their respective contracts.
119. If any superintendent shall fail to comply with the direc-
tions of the preceding section, he shall forfeit not less than fifty
nor more than five hundred dollars, recoverable in the name and
for the use of the State, by action of debt or indictment, in the
Circuit Court for Allegany county.
120. The following shall be the rate of tolls to be charged on
said road, to wit; For every space of ten miles on said road,
