Mr. Kimmel offered the following amendments :
Page 42, section 1, line 8, strike out all after the word
" premises."

Page 42, line 5, strike out all after the word "character,"
and insert, the Board of Commissioners of Public Schools of
said city shall annually make a report to the Principal of
the State Normal School, of the condition of the schools
under their charge, to include a statement of expenditures,
the number of children taught, and such other statistical
information as may be necessary to exhibit the operation of
the schools.

Page 42, section 2, line 4, after the word "power," insert,
to examine, appoint and remove teachers, prescribe their
qualifications, fix their salaries, and.
Which were adopted.

Mr. Hammond offered the following amendment :
Page 42, section 2, line 5. After the word "sectarian,"
insert, or partizan.

Mr. Clarke offered the following amendments :
Page 44, line 19, after the word "school", strike out to
the end of the section.

Page 46, line 4. Strikeout "State Board of Education,"
and insert, High School Board.

Which were adopted.

Mr. Earle offered the following amendments :
Page 44, section 7, line 2. Strike out the words "the State
Commissioner," and insert in lieu thereof the words: the
Principal of the State Normal School, or a Professor thereof.

Page 46. Strike out section 10.

Page 46, section 7, line 5, strike out from the word
"observations" to end of this section.

Mr. Maddox offered the following :

Page 47, section 1. The total amount of taxes paid for
school purposes by the colored people of any county, or in
the city of Baltimore, together with any donations that may
be made for the purpose, shall be set aside for the maintain-
