On motion by Mr. Walsh, it was
Ordered, That the Committee on Education inquire into
the expediency of providing for the continuance of the pub-
lic schools now open in the counties and city of Baltimore,
during the interval between the adjournment of the Legisla-
ture and the period that may be determined upon for putting
the contemplated "new system" in operation, and said com-
mittee "be requested to report at an early day.
The order was adopted.
On motion by Mr. Brewer,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 1
and 2 of chapter 329 of the Public General Laws, passed
March 16, 1867, entitled an Act to provide for the selection,
drawing and summoning the juries in the several counties,
and prescribing their qualifications, and to enact in lieu
thereof the following :
On motion by Mr. Clarke,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill extending the time for the completion of
the Baltimore and Hampden Passenger Railway, chartered
at the January session, 1865, chapter 32.
On motion by Mr. Clarke,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Peoceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act to amend the 27th
section of Article 38 of Public General Laws relating to
Sheriff's fees in the several counties of this State.
On motion by Mr. Malone,
Leave was granted to the Senators from Wicomico, Som-
erset and Worcester to report a bill to ratify and confirm the
proceedings and sales of the Sheriffs and Constables of Wor-
cester and Somerset counties made within the limits of
Wicomico county.
On motion by Mr. Grove,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill to repeal section 45, Article 29 of the
Code of Public General Laws, and re-enact the same with
amendments.
On motion by Mr. Malone,
Leave was granted to the Senators from Wicomico, Somer-
set and Worcester, to report a bill to authorize and appoint
three commissioners to open Poplar Hill Avenue, in the town
of Salisbury, Md.
