TUESDAY, January 21, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

In the absence of the President the Secretary called the
Senate to order.

Prayer by the Eev. Mr. Hildt.

On motion by Mr. Fields,

Mr. Henkle was chosen as President, pro tem, and took
the chair.

Present at roll call:

Messrs. Browne, Brewer, Clarke, Carroll, Earle, Fields,
Grove, Henkle, Hyland, Hammond, Kimmel, Lee, Miller,
Malone, Parker, of Calvert, Parker of Worcester, Snyder,
Smith, Walsh.—20.

Mr. Malone presented the petition of S. J. Parker and
other citizens of Wicomico county.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from Wico-
mico, Somerset and Worcester.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of Nicholas Gardner,
C. M. Eay and twenty-two other citizens of Baltimore
county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

Mr. Earle presented the petition of the public School
teachers of Queen Anne's county.

Which, was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

Mr. Parker, of Worcester, presented the petition of E. A.
Sicker and others asking the continuance of the present
school system.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

Mr. Earle presented the petition of citizens of Queen
Anne's county to continue the present school system until
the 15th of July, 1868.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.
