The petition of Benjamin Sheppard and other citizens of
Wieomico county, praying the passage of an Act to continue
in force the present system of Public Schools,

Was referred from the Committee on Printing to the Com-
mittee on Education, it having been referred to the former
committee by mistake.

The following message was received from the House of
Delegates:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 17, 1868.
Gentletnen of the Senate :

We propose with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to appoint a joint special committee of five, (three from this
House and two from the Senate,) to notify the Hon. William
T. Hamilton that he has been this day duly elected to repre-
sent this State in the United States Senate for six years, from
and after the 4th day of March, 1869. We have appointed
on the part of this House Messrs. McElroy, Coudy and Beck.

MILTON Y. KIDD, Chief Clerk.

The following message was sent to the House of Delegates.

BY THE SENATE,

January 21, 1868.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We have received your message, proposing the appoint-
ment of a joint committee of five, to inform the Hon. William
T. Hamilton that he has been elected to represent this State
in the Senate of the United States for six years, from and after
the 4th day of March, 1869, and concur therein. We have
appointed on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Fields and Par-
ker, of Calvert.

H. DAVIDSON,

Acting Secretary.
On motion by Mr. Carroll, it was

Ordered, That the Comptroller report to the Senate the
amount of money which appears to be due to Howard county
from the Academic Fund allowed to each county by the
State.

The order was adopted.

Mr. Malone, from the select Committee reported a bill en-
titled an Act to organize the Circuit Court for Wieomico
county, and to regulate the terms thereof.

Which was read the first time.
