The bill was then returned to the Senate.

Mr. Thomas, Chairman Committee on Ways and Means,
reported back the bill entitled, an Act to authorize the Board
of Public Works to vote the stock in the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal Company for a President and four Directors upon the
nomination of the holders of preferred bonds of said Com-
pany, with proposed amendments.

Mr. Kjing moved to postpone the further consideration of
the bill and make it the order of the day for Tuesday next at
one o'clock,

Pending the consideration of which,

The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the
day,

Being the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad bill ;

Mr. Jones moved that the order of the day be postponed
until two o'clock ;

Mr. Ford moved to postpone the order of the day until one
and a half o'clock.

Mr. Ford moved the previous question ;
Which was sustained.

The question then being shall the previous question be now
put?

It was sustained.

The question then recurving upon the motion of Mr.
Jones;
