The question then recurring upon the motion of Mr. Ford ;
It was sustained, and the order of the day postponed until
one and a half o'clock.

The House then resumed the consideration of the bill en-
titled, an Act to authorize the Board of Public Works to vote
the stock of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company for a
President and four Directors upon the nomination of the
holders of preferred bonds of said Company ;

Said bill being upon a third reading.

Mr. Devecmon proposed the following amendment:

14th line, l0th section, after the words "majority of said,"
insert, "holders of the debts of said Company due by post
notes, scrip, acceptances, and for balances owing to contrac-
tors and of the said trustees ;

Pending the consideration of which,

The hour having arrived to which the consideration of the
order of the day was postponed ;

The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, a
supplement to take Act of eighteen hundred and fifty-three,
chapter one hundred and ninety-four, entitled, an Act to in-
corporate the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Company ;

Said bill being upon a third reading. ,

Mr. Williams moved a call of the House, when the follow-
ing members responded to their names :

Messrs. Miller, Speaker, Morgan, Beck, Welch, Hall,
Williams, Clarke, Cameron, Hutching, Ford, Shipley, Nic-
olai, Davis of Charles, Thomas, Jump, Jones, Parsons, Kerr,
Golibart, Whitaker, Lindsey, Magruder, Calvert, Rouzer,
Baker, Linthicam, Gorsuch, Steiner, Bamford, Apppleman,
Tobey, Hoflfhinft, Bishop, Button, Burche, Turne'r, Cole-
man, Nerhton, Smith, Flaherty, Israel, Knott, Lankford,
Stevens, Kraft. Boswell, Thomson, Davis, of Baltimore city,
Waltemeyer, Pitts, Aydelott, Gordy, Nelson, Whiteford,
Wilson, McCulley, Bruce, McCulloh, Devecm,on, Brydon,
Carmichael, Neale, Benton, Horsey, Hammond—65.

On motion of Mr. Clarke,

The Sergeant-at-Arms was ordered to notify the absent
members to give their attendance and bring them before the
bar of the House.

After some time the Sergeant-at-Arms returned, and re-
ported that he had notified all the absent members now in
the city, and had brought them before the bar of the House.

On motion of Mr. Calvert,

All further proceedings uader the call were dispensed
with.
