one time hold more then two parrishes nor two parrishes but
by the desire and Agreement of the Vestry of the said Adja-
cent Parrish and consent of the Vestryes where he Resides and
the Appointment of his Excy the Govr or other Person Legally
Authorized thereunto for the time being nor Claime other or
larger Parte of the fforty p Polle than what such Adjacent
Parrish shall consent and agree with him to Pay Yearely, And
it is the true intent and meaning of this Act that what Sume
or Sumes of money Tobbaccoe goods Chatties or any other

Interest Except land Given to the use of the Church And the

fforty p Poll that shall conic into the Vestrys hands by any

meanes whatsoever As Aforesaid shall allways be employed in
the first place to repaireing the Church or Chappell and what
Appurtaines to it and providing decent Ornaments and requi-
sites for the same and other pochiall charges and in the next
Place for and towards the Educateing and Instructing poore
Orphans of the Parrish that are not able to procure instruction
to themselves and if any thing remaines over and beyond what
will Answer these Occasions to such other Pious & Charri-
table uses as as the Vestry and Church Wardens of such Par-
rish shall find most requisite in their directions and that the
Severall Vestrymen of Each respective parrish may not be
discouraged to looke After any thing that by any meanes as
Aforesaid becomes the Parrish right and due
Be it Enacted by the Authority Advice and consent Afore-
said that in any Action by them commenced in the name of
the Vestry and for the benefit! of the Parrish Aforesd they
shall not be Obliged to pay any fees or costs of Suite to any
Person or Officer unless they recover in the Same Action nor
pay the Defendant any Cost in case the Vestry shall not re-
cover or be cast in Such Tryall and that the Majr Part of the
members of every Vestry shalbe construed the Vestry cape-
able to proceed in any Matter and tht where there are not or

shall not be ministers in any Parrish it shall and may be law-
full for the Vestry to provide some sober and discreet person
as a Reader and Agree with him for such Service ter[m] of
Yeare or otherwise for less time and Allow him his pay out of
the fforty per Poll what parte thereof they shall agree for not
Exceeding the one halfe yearely of such Revenue and upon
such readers takeing the said Oaths appointed by Act of
Parliament Subscribeing the test and Association and pro-

cureing Lycence from his Excy the Governor or other person
thereunto Authorized shall and may read Divine Service
Homilies and other Good Authors of Practicall Divinity at
the usuall times in Church or Chappell and therein shall de-
mean himselfe according to the Liturgy of the Church of Eng-
land as Aforesaid. Lastly it is Ordained and Enacted by the
