The Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commission was authorized by federal statute in November 2017 (P.L. 115-77).

The Commission's charge was to plan, develop, and carry out programs and activities by which to commemorate in 2018 the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Frederick Douglass.

Authorization for the Commission ended in June 2019.
