In October 2025, the General Assembly authorized Maryland's participation in the Social Work Licensure Compact Commission (Chapter 9 (external website, opens in a new tab) & 10, Acts of 2025).

A multi-state license issued by a home state in the bachelor's, master's, or clinical category of social work will be recognized as valid among the member states of the Social Work Licensure Compact.

Each member state is represented on the Commission by one delegate, who is appointed by that member state's licensing authority. In Maryland, the delegate is named by the State Board of Social Work Examiners (Code Health-Occupations Article, sec. 19-3A-01).
