Wicomico County has eight municipalities: Delmar, Fruitland, Hebron, Mardela Springs, Pittsville, Salisbury, Sharptown, and Willards. The oldest of these is Salisbury, the county seat, incorporated in 1854. Thereafter, Sharptown formed its own government (1874), as did Delmar (1888), Mardela Springs (1906), Pittsville (1906), Willards (1906), Hebron (1931), and Fruitland (1947).
