Advisory Board began in Feb. 1998 as Maryland Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, created by Chief Judge of Court of Appeals. In July 2001, Commission reformed as Advisory Board to Maryland Mediation and Conflict Office. In July 2014, when Office transferred to Administrative Office of the Courrts as a department, Board advised Mediation and Conflict Resolution Department within Administrative Office of the Courts.
Board ceased to function as of January 2015, when its functions transferred to Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of Judicial Council.

In Oct. 2001, Drug Treatment Court Commission was initiated by Chief Judge of Court of Appeals (Administrative Order, Oct. 23, 2001). To institute a system of drug treatment courts statewide, Commission worked to establish uniform standards and procedures. Commission also assisted local jurisdictions in setting up drug treatment courts by providing technical assistance, training, and other support. Programs for such courts were coordinated and evaluated by Commission so that they would function efficiently statewide.
Appointed by Chief Judge of Court of Appeals, Commission members included representatives of Judicial Branch, General Assembly, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Department of Juvenile Services, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, a State's Attorney's office, Public Defender's Office, Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, Maryland Association of Public Health Officers, and providers of addiction treatment services.
In Dec. 2006, Commission was restructured as Drug Court Oversight Committee under Problem-Solving Courts Committee of Maryland Judicial Conference.

FAIR PRACTICES DEPARTMENT
Department worked to eliminate and prevent discrimination in the workplace. It promoted equal opportunity in employment through compliance with federal, State and local employment laws and regulations concerned with civil rights; the fair and voluntary resolution of disputes about equal employment opportunity; and education and outreach. Department also investigated complaints of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment, including sexual harassment, filed by employees and public users of Judiciary programs and services.
Combined with Legal Affairs Department in Dec. 2023 to form Office of Legal Affairs and Fair Practices.

Legal Affairs Department originated in 2001 as Department of Legal Affairs. In July 2014, it transferred to Internal Affairs Division as Legal Services Department and, at that time, reformed as Legal Affairs Department.
Department advised State Court Administrator on legal issues relating to administrative matters, including personnel and procurement. In addition, Department conducted legal research; and provided in-house legal review of Judiciary policies and procedures, and of contracts and memoranda of understanding with other State agencies.
Combined with Fair Practices Department in Dec. 2023 to form Office of Legal Affairs and Fair Practices.

In 1999, Technology Oversight Board was formed by Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. In 2007, Board was reformed and its duties clarified.
For Judiciary, Board advised Executive Director of Judicial Information Systems about long-term needs and strategies for developing and managing information technology. Board provided guidance to Judiciary on priority of technology projects; computer software, hardware, and related technology design; integrity of Judiciary data; and changed and trends in computer and systems technology.
Replaced by Judicial Council's Court Technology Committee in Jan. 2015.
