Effective June 1, 2024, the General Assembly authorized formation of the Commission on Veterans and Military Families (Chapters 9 & 10, Acts of 2024).
The Commission is to study and make recommendations, including legislative and budgetary recommendations, for developing and implementing a statewide strategic plan to make Maryland the best state for veterans and military families. While forming the recommendations and drafting the study required, the Commission will consult with the Office of Military and Federal Affairs of the Department of Commerce, and the Maryland Military Installation Council. Further, the commission is to identify key performance indicators that can be compared to those of other states in order to assess the quality of life for veterans and military families in Maryland relative to other states.
Authorization for the Commission ends June 30, 2026.
