On June 1, 2023, the Commission on Public Health was formed by the General Assembly (Chapter 385, Acts of 2023).
First, the Commission is to conduct an assessment of the foundational public health capabilities of the Maryland Department of Health and local health departments. Then, it will recommend how to improve the delivery of foundational public health services in Maryland.
To foster broad engagement and provide expertise for the Commission's work and recommendations, the Commission has established workgroups concerned with: Funding; Governance and Organizational Capabilities; Workforce; Data and Information Technology; and Communication and Public Engagement (Chapter 787, Acts of 2024; Code Health General Article, secs. 13-5101 through 13-5107).
Authorization for the Commission ends June 30, 2025.
