(239) Satisfaction nor Security for the Same Sworn Before Allen Davies Charles County ss.t Whereas William Bryan did this day come before me one of his Lordships Justices of the Peace for the County afs.d and made Oath on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God that Mark Knowles is justly Indebted unto him in the sum of Two pounds Eleven Shillings & nine pence half penny Currency and Eighteen Hundred and Twenty five pounds of Tobacco and that the said Mark Knowles is Runaway & These are therefore in his Lordships Name to Require you Immediately to Issue Attachment against the Effects of the said Mark Knowles for the use of the said William Bryan according to the Directions of the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided and hereof fail not given under my hand and Seal this 14.th day of Sept.r 1747 Allen Davies To M.r Edmund Porteus Clk Cha.s County Whereupon It was Commanded the sheriff that of the Goods Chattles & Credits of the afs.d Mark Knowles in his Bailywick being he should attach as well the sum of Two pounds eleven shillings & nine pence half penny Currency and Eighteen Hundred and Twenty five pounds of Tobacco Damages as one Thousand pounds of Tobacco for Costs that had accrued and that further should accrue in prosecution of the Premises and when the same he had attached or any part thereof that he should have it before the Justices of the Lord Proprietary of his next County Court to be held at Charles Town on the second Tuesday in August Next then & there to be Condemned according to Law to and for the use of the said William Bryan unless the said Mark Knowles should Come then & there by himself or Lawfull Attorney and answer unto the said W.m of a plea of Trespass upon the Case and that by Good men of his Bailywick he should make known to the Person or Persons in whose hands he should make the same attachment that he she or they be and appear before the Justices of the said Lord Proprietary at the time and place afs.d to shew Cause if any he she or they may have why this rem in their or any of their hands attached should not be Condemned according to Law and the said William have thereof Execution if &C.a and how he shewed that Writt that he should make make the same known &Ca And now here at this day to wit the second Tuesday in November afs.d Comes the said William by Jeremiah Chase his attorney & offers himself against the said Mark in the plea afs.d and the sheriff afs.d Returns to the Court here the Writt afs.d thus Indorsed Charles County ss.t To the Worshipfull the Justices within mentioned I hereby Certifye that by Virtue of the within Writ to me Directed on the 27.th Day of September 1747 I attached in the hands of the within Named Wm Bryan Sundries the Effects of the w.thin (Named) |
