(188) November Court Anno Domini 1747 One of our said Justices of our said Court at Charles Town afs.d the fourteenth Day of August in the Thirty Third year of our Dominion &C.a Anno Dom 1747 Issued August 18.th 1747 Edm Porteus Clk And now here at this day to wit the Second Tuesday in November aforesaid John Winter Benjamin Douglass & Samuel Chunn Three of the Commissioners afs.d return to the Court the Commission afs.d with the Subsequent Depositions hereunto annexed Vizt Charles County September y.e 26.th 1747 The Deposition of Courts Keech aged fifty Nine years or thereabouts he being first Sworn on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God Sayes that about Thirty years ago or thereabouts he was at the place where he Now stands it being on the head of a Valley on the West side of the plantation of Tubman Mankin Deceased he was in Company with Stephen Mankin who shewed him a stump (which now to us appears) and told him it was the first bound tree of a Tract of Land Called Barkers Rest and further he saith not Courts Keech Charles County September y.e 26.th 1747 The Deposition of William Doulton aged Seventy Three years or thereabouts he being first sworn on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God says that about Thirty Seven years ago he was in Company with Joseph Dicel and Richard Dod at the place where he now stands it being on the head of a Valley on the West side of the abovesaid Tubman Mankin and the same Spot of Ground prov'd by the above oath where he further saith that the said Dicel and Dod shewed him a stumpt on which he sayes appeared fair bounds which stump he says was a White oak and for a memorandum they marked a Read Oak standing near thereunto and further he saith not his Charles County ss.t William W D Doulton mark By Virtue of a Commission to us Directed by the Worshipfull the Justices of Charles the County abovesaid to Examine Evidences to perpetuate the memory of the Bounds of a Tract of Land lying in the said County in possession and occupation of James Mankin & the heirs of Tubman Mankin Deceased Called Barkers Rest and In obedience thereunto is evidence for the premises in the Twenty Sixth of September 1747 & then & there did Examine all such Evidences as to us was offer'd (all REquisites being first performed) as by the Depositions hereunto annexed may appear Witness our hands and seals the day and year above Written John Winter (H) Benj.a Douglass (H) Sam: Chunn (H) |
