69 Proprietary doth give the Court here to understand and be Informed that Wheatly Dennis late of All hallow Parish in the said County of Somerset Planter the twenty eighth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty at the Parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Comit Fornication with a Certain Sarah Challie and of her body then and there had Carnal knowledge and a Bastard Child on the body of her the same Sarah then and there did beget to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case Offending Contrary to the peace of the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary that now is his good Rule and Government and against the form of the act of assembly in such Case lately made and Provided &.a Whereupon the same Attorney of the said Lord Proprietary for the same Lord Proprietary prays the Advice of the Court here in the Premisses and that due process of Law against the said Wheatly Dennis in this part may be made to Answer the same Lord Proprietary upon the premisses &.a Thereupon Command was given to the sheriffe of the County afd that he should take the said Wheatly Dennis if &.a to Answer &.a and now to witt at that same Court held for the County afd at dividing Creek the afd Seventeenth day of March Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and forty before the afd Justices Came the afd Wheatly Dennis in his proper person according to a Certain Recognizance by him and his Security in this part first acknowledged and had a hearing of the Information afd and saith that he Cannot deny but that he is Guilty of the Premisses afd in the Information afd Specifyed above upon him Imposed in manner and form as by the Information afd above upon him supposed &.a Whereupon all and Singular the premisses being seen and by the Court here fully understood It is Considered by the Court here that the afd Wheatly Dennis Pay unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary for his fine by the Court here upon him Imposed for and by Occasion of the Premisses afd whereof in form afd he is Convict thirty Shillings Currt money of maryland and that the said Wheatly Dennis be taken to Satisfie His said Lordship of the fine afd &.a Whereupon the said Wheatly Dennis is Ordered to give Security to save and keep Indemnifyed The Justices of the County of Somerset and their Successors from all troubles burthens and Charges that might Accrew by means of the birth and maintainance and bringing up of the Child afd &.c Thereupon the said Wheatly Dennis with a Certain John Dennis J.r of Somerset County Planter his Security both present herein Court in their Proper persons acknowledged themselves Indebted unto his Lordship the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary of the province of maryland in thirty Pounds Currt money of their bodys Goods or Chattles Lands or tennements Severally to be made and Levied to the use of the Inhabitents of the County of Somerset for the time being If it happen that the said Wheatly Dennis and John Dennis J.r their heirs Ex.rs Adm.rs or any or either of them doe not from time to time or at all times hereafter Acquit discharge and save harmless |
