318 Anno Dom One Thousand Seven hundred and forty Two at a Court then held at dividing Creek before his Lordships Justices Came the aforesaid Nicholas Buckler n his proper person and prays that his appearance may be recorded and he and his security discharged from the Recognizance aforesaid Thereupon the said Nicholas Bucklers appearance is Recorded and he & his Security accordingly discharged from the Recognizance afd &a Whereupon the said Nicholas Buckler is Ordered to give Security for the payment of the Severall Officers Fees due by means of the premisses and recognizance afd but for want thereof the said Nicholas Buckler is Order to give Recognizance with One good Security for ten pounds Currant money Each for his the said Nicholas's good behaviour and appearance at the next Court to be held at dividing the third Tuesday of November then next following to answer &a bu for want thereof the said Nicholas is Committed into the Custody of the Sheriffe thereto remain &a the Said Sheriffe present here in Court took Charge of the said Nicholas accordingly &a
(to witt) Att dividing Creek in the Same County the Seventeenth day of August in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and forty Two before Robert King Esqr and his associates the said Lord Proprietary his Justices of the Same County Court and for the Same Lord Proprietary doth give the Court here to Understand and be Informed that Rachel Davis Late of Stepney parish in the said County of Sommerset Spinster the first day of October in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and forty One at the parish aforesaid in the County aforesaid within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Commit fornication with a Certain person unknown and did permitt the Same unknown person then and there to have Carnall Knowledge of her body and of her body then and there to begett a bastard Child to the high displeasure almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in Such Case Offending Contrary to the peace of the Right Honrble the Lord Proprietary that now is his good rule and Government and against the form of the act of assembly in Such Case Lately made and provided &a Whereupon the Same attorney of the Same Lord Proprietary prays advice of the Court here in ye premisses and that due process of Law in this part against the Same Rachell may be made to answer unto the same Lord propry of and upon the premisses &a Thereupon Command was given to the Sheriffe of Somerset County that he Should take the said Rachell Davis if &a to answer &a And now to witt at that Same Court held for the County aforesaid at dividing Creek this Seventeenth day of August Ann.o Dom One thousand Seven hundred and forty Two before the aforesaid Justices Came the aforesaid Rachel Davis in her proper person and had a hearing of the Information aforesaid and Saith that she Cannot deny but that she is guilty of the premisses aforesaid in the Information aforesaid Specified above Upon her Imposed in manner and form as by the Information aforesaid above upon her Supposed and maketh Oath that a Certain John Jones is the Begetter of the Child |
