Severally to be made and Levied to the use of the Inhabitants of the County of Somerset for the time
being If it happen that the said David Smith and John Tatman their heirs Ex.rs and Adm.rs or any or
either of them doe not from time to time and at all times hereafter acquit discharge and Save harmless as well
the Justices of Somerset County Court for the time being and allso the Inhabitants of said County of and from
all Costs Charges and burthens whatsoever for ^or^ by reason of the birth maintainance nourishing and bringing up
of the af.d Child and of and from all other suits Charges Troubles or demands whatsoever touching or Concerning
of the same &c

 Sommerset ss  Memorandum That at a Court of his Lordship the Right Honourable
the Lord proprietary of the province of Maryland held at dividing Creek in Sommerset
County the third Tuesday of November to witt the Seventeenth day of the Same month
    Ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred and forty One before his said Lordships Justices the peace in
    the County afd to keep assigned by the Oath of Twelve Jurors presented that Mary Mears Late of Stepney
parish in the County of Somerset Spinster the thirtyeth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and forty at the parish af.d in the County af.d and within the Jurisdiction of this Court
did Commit Fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors af.d unknown and did permit the same unknown
person then and there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and then and there to beget a bastard Child on the
body of Her the same Mary Mears to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the evill Example of
all others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord propry that now is his good rule and
Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided

                Thereupon Command was given to the sheriffe of the County of Somerset that he should Take the said
Mary Mears if she should be found in his bailywick and her should safe keep so that he might have her body
before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at dividing Creek the third Tuesday of
March Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and forty one to answer unto his said Lordship of the Indictment af.d &c

             And now to witt at a Court held for the County af.d the third Tuesday of March being the Sixteenth day of the
same month Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and forty one before his said Lordships Justices at dividing
Creek Came the af.d Mary Mears in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment af.d and saith that she
Cannot deny but that she is Guilty of the premisses af.d in the Indictment af.d Specified in manner and form as by
the Indictment af.d above against her Supposed and the premisses in the Indictment af.d Expressly Acknowledgeth
