1741 159 Said Court of Somerset County here honestly faithfully and to the best of his skill and acknowledge had Prosecuted and defended and by reason of the fidelity honestly care and skill of him the same Francis in the management of the Causes suits and business of his Clients af.d divers subjects of our Lord the King and his predecessors the same Francis to be their attorney and their actions and suits in the Court af.d to prosecute and defend duely did Retain by which the same Francis attorneys Fees and other Large sums of money for the management of their affairs Lawfully and honestly gained to the plentifull support and maintainance of him and his family and the same Francis from all false dealing and fraudulent practise and from takeing and Receiveing Fees on both sides by all the time af.d hetherto free Clear unspotted and unsuspected hath remained Nevertheless the af.d Peter not Ignorant of the Premisses but falsely and maliciously plotting and Intending the same Francis unjustly to aggrieve and him into scandall infamy Ignominy shame as well among his Clients af.d as other subjects of our Lord the King now to whom the same Francis was known to bring and Likewise to Cause the Clients of the same Francis him as a Villain and a Cheat to desert and Leave and him as their attorney no Longer to retain and also the same Francis of such Fees and profitts which he from his Clients af.d might might reasonably gain and accquire totally to deprive the twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and forty at Somerset County af.d in the Presence and hearing of many Leige Subjects of our Lord the King now these false feigned and scandelous words Following of the said Francis in the presence and hearing of many of his majestys Leige Subjects did publish speak pronounce and declare vizt Frank Allen the af.d Francis Allen meaning hath taken double Fees one from John Evans and another from me (the said Peter Taylor himself meaning) in one and the same Cause by pretext of the speaking and Publishing of the af.d false feigned and scandelous words the same Francis not only in his Charector and Reputation is much hurt and Vilified but many of his Clients and other Leige Subjects of our Lord the King now to Imploy or Retain him to prosecute and defend their Causes and suits for the reason afd utterly refuse by which divers fees and sums of money which the said Francis might have Lawfully acquired or may accquire he hath totally Lost whereupon the same Francis saith he is damnifyed and damage hath to the value of five hundred pounds Currt money of maryland and thereof he brings suit &.a Pledges &.a J: Doe and R: Roe And the af.d Peter Taylor by his attorney af.d Comes and defends the force and Injury when &.a and prayeth Leave thereof to Imparle here untill ^next^ Court to be held at dividing Creek in and for the County af.d the third tuesday of June then next Following and he hath it and the same day is given to the af.d Francis here also &.a Att |
