103 The petition af.d being read and heard and fully understood It is Considered by the Court here that the af.d John Riggen be tax free untill please God to restore him to a Capacity to labour for a lively hood for himself &c
him tax free and your petitioner as in duty bound shall ever pray The petition af.d being read and heard and fully understood It is COnsidered by the Court here that the af.d Andrew Smith be for the future tax free as by the petition af.d is praid &c
late of Coventry parish in the said County of Somerset shipwright the tenth day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty nine at the parish af.d in the County af.d within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Comit fornication with a Certain Mary Peacock and of her body then and there had Carnall knowledge and a bastard Child on the body of her the same Mary then and there did beget to the high displseasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the Right honourable the Lord propry that now is his good rule and Goverment and against the form of the Act of Assembly in such Case lately made and provided &c Thereupon it is Commanded the sheriffe of the County of Somerset that he should take the said Sowel Long if he should be found in his bailywick and him should safe keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at dividing Creek the third Tuesday of June One thousand Seven hundred and forty One to answer unto his Said Lordship of the Indictment aforesaid And now to witt at that same Court held for the County aforesaid the third Tuesday of June being the Sixteenth day of the Same month Ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred and forty One before the aforesaid Justices at dividing Creek Came the aforesaid Sowell Long by William Arbuckle his attorney and had a hearing of the Indictm.t aforesaid and saith that he Cannot deny but that the same Sowel is Guilty of the premisses in the Indictment afd Specified above upon him Imposed in manner and form as by the Indictment aforesaid above against him Supposed and the premisses in the Indictment afd Expressly acknowledgeth Whereupon all and Singular the premisses being seen and by the Court fully understood It is Considered by the Court here that the aforesaid Sowel Long pay unto his Lordship the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary of the province of Maryland for his fine by the Court here upon him Imposed for and by Occasion of |
