99 in the same County to Conserve and also divers felony trespasses and Other Malefesances in the Same County committed to hear and determine assigned by the oath of William Holland and twelve others being presented that Margaret Peel Late of Coventry parish in the County af.d spinster the last day of may Anno Dom seventeen hundred thirty and seven at the parish af.d in the County af.d and within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Commit fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors af.d unknown and did permit the same unknown person then and there to have carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then and there a Basterd Child on the body of her the same Margrett to the High displeasure of almighty God to the offending contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good Rule and Government and against the form of the act of assembly in such case lately made and provided &c Thereupon Command was given to the sherriff of Somerset County that he should take the said Margaret Peal if she should be found in his bailywick and her should safe keep so that he might have her body before the Justices of His Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at dividing Creek in the same County the third tuesday of August Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven to answer unto his said Lordship of the fornication af.d whereof she was Indicted &c And afterwards to witt the said Third Tuesday of August One thousand Seven hundred and Thirty Seven that Same term before his Lordships Justices at diving Creek afd Came the Said Margaret Peal in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment af.d and saith that she Cannot deney but that she is Guilty of the premisses afd in the Indictment Specified in manner and form as by the Indictment afd above against her Supposed and the premisses afd in the Indictm.t aforesaid Expresly acknowledgeth and makes oath that a Certain John Woolford is the begetter of the Child She stands Indicted for and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd &c Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here being seen and fully understood It is Considered that the afd Margaret Peal pay unto his Lordship the Lord Proprietary for her fine by the Court hereupon her Imposed for and by Occasion of the premisses afd whereof in form afd She is Convicted thirty Shillings Curr.t Money of Maryland (to the use of the County afd) And that the said Margaret Peal be taken to Satisfie his said Lordship of the fine afd &c Whereupon the said Margaret Peal is ordered to give good Security to save and keep Endemnified the Justices of Somerset County and their Successors from all Costs Charges and Burthens that might accrew by means of the birth of the Child afd &c Thereupon the said Margaret Peal with John Webb & John Melton her Securitys of the County afd planters |
