63 Mary Riggin the wife of Teague Riggin the Elder she upon her Oath declared that near the place where she now stands Called the oyster shell Hammock her husband Imployed one Richard (whom Sir Name he Can't remember) to build him a house who as he said Cutt down a Ceader tree upon the Creek and further saith not James Nairne John Riggin of Somerset County planter aged fifty six years or there abouts being Sworn on the holy Evangelist of almighty God (by us the said Commissioners) deposeth and saith that near the place sworn to by the former Wittnesses he saw a small Ceder tree that stoopt over the Water markt with four Notches on two sides but that he did not take notice wheather it was markt on the other two sides or not and that his father Teague Riggin the elder and all the neighbours acknowledged that to be the Corner tree of the Land Called the Golden Lyon and that at the time of the Examination of Mary Riggen the wife of Teague Riggen the elder before William Holland James Nearn and John Outten she being an Ancient wooman was lead by the hand to the place where he now stands (it being on the uppermost oyster shell Hammock and that upon her said oath she said that she heard say that thee tree was here and further saith not his John + Riggen Senr mark Mary Riggen the wife of John Riggen aged forty eight years or there abouts being sworn on the holy evangelist of almighty God by us the Commissioners af.d deposeth and saith that Sarah Dickerson the wife of Peter Dickerson told this deponant that the tree that John Riggen and James Dickerson had made oath to us the first bounder of the Land Called the Golden Lyon she knew the said tree to be markt and that it was a Ceder tree and that the said tree Leaned over into the Creek and that she hath many times stood on the same tree to Rence thread in the Creek and that there was a markt tree Right against the same Ceader which was fell sore againt her will and this deponent further saith that at the time that William Holland James Nearn and John Outten were Examining James Dickerson on oath in Relation to the bounder of the Land Called the Golden Lyon he the said James Dickerson upon his said oath did declare that Ambrose Riggen and Peter Dickerson Employed him the said James Dickerson to divide the same Land betwen them as is before expressed by the depossition of Teague Riggen by Cutting a ditch which ditch he said he did Cutt and that Ambrose Riggen paid him a Cow and Calf for his part of Cutting the said ditch and further saith not her Mary R Riggen mark |
