268 and against the form of the Act of Assembly in such Case lately made and provided Thereupon Command was given to the Sheriffe of Somerset County that he Should take the afd Betty Rumley if &a to answer &a and afterwards to witt the Twentyeth day of June Ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred and thirty Eight before his Lordships Justices at dividing Creek in Somerset County Came the afd Betty Rumley in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd and saith that she is Guilty thereof and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here Seen heard and fully understood It is Considered that the said Betty Rumley pay unto his Lordship the Lord Proprietary for her fine for and by occasion of the premisses afd by the Court hereupon her Imposed thirty Shillings Curr.t money of Maryland (to the Use of the County afd) and that the said Betty Rumley be taken to Satisfie his said Lordship of the fine aforesaid Whereupon it is Ordered by the Court here that the afd Betty Rumley give Security for the payment of the Severall Officers Fees due by means of the premisses afd upon the Indictment afd Thereupon a Certain George Dashiell of the County afd present herein Court in his proper person undertook for the said Betty Rumley for the payment of the Severall Officers Fees due on the Indictment afd In Case the Same Betty Rumley do not pay the Same &a
the said County to keep assigned by the Oath of Twelve Jurors being presented that Jarviss Ballard Jun.r Late of Somerset parish in the County aforesaid Planter the first day of August in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven at the parish af.d in the County af.d within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain Betty Rumley and of her body then and there had Carnal knowledge and a bastard Child on the body of her the same Betty Rumley then and there did begett to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good rule and Government and against |
