Somerset County sst  Be it remembred that on the first day of June Ann
Dom 1738  A Certain Collins Addams of Somerset County planter
and John Hall of the same place Planter psonaly Came before
me William Lane ^one^ of the Right Honourable the Lord proprietarys
Justices the peace in the County af.d to Keep assigned and did acknowledged to owe
unto said Right Honourable the Lord proprietary vizt the af.d Collins Addams in five
pounds and the af.d John Hall in five pounds Lawfull Money of Maryland of there
Goods and Chattles Lands and tenements seperately to be made and Levied for the use of the
said Lord proprietary his heirs and successors If default be made in the Condition here under
written                           The Condition of this Recognizance is such that if the above
bounden Collins Addams shall make his psonal appearance before the Justices of Somerset
County Court to be held at dividing Creek the third Tuesday of this Instant June to answer
unto such Matters and things as shall be then and there on his Lopps behalfe objected
Against him and that in the mean time he be of the Good behaviour to all people & especaly
towards John White and doe not depart the Court without lieve the this Recognizance to
be void otherwise to be and remain in full forse and vertue      Whereupon Came hereinto Court
the aforesaid Collins Adams in his proper person and prays that his appearance may
be recorded and he and his Security accordingly discharge &a  Thereupon the said
Collins Adams appearance is recorded and he and his Security accordingly discharged &a

Somerset ss  Memorandum that at a Sessions of the Peace of his Lordship
the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary of the province of Maryland
held at dividing Creek in Somerset County at Dividing Creek the third
Tuesday of June Ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred and thirty Eight before his
said Lordships Justices the peace in the Same County to keep assigned by the Oath of
Twelve Jurors being presented that Betty Rumley Late of Somerset parish in the County
aforesaid Spinster the first day of August Ann Dom Seventeen hundred and
thirty Seven at the parish afd in the County afd and within the Jurisdiction of
this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain Jarviss Ballard Junior and did permit
the same Jarviss Ballard then and there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and
begett then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Betty Rumley to the high
displeasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case offending
Contrary to the peace of the said Lord Proprietary that now is his good rule and govenment
