259 Somerset ss.t Att a Court of the Right Honourable Charles absolute Lord and Proprietary of the provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &a held for Somerset County in the Court house at dividing Creek in the Same County the third Tuesday of June to witt the twentieth day of the same month Ann Dom one thousand seven hundred and thirty Eight by the said Lord Proprietary his Justices the peace in the Same County to keep assigned of whom were present
Whereupon his Lordships Commission of the peace being produced here in Court was Openly reced as followeth vizt Maryland sst Charles absolute Lord and Proprietary of the provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &a To Richard Tilghman Mathew Tilghman Ward John Rousby Benjamin Tasker Philip Lee John Rider George Plater Edmund Jennings James Hollyday Charles Hammond and Levin Gale Esq.r Robert King John Smith Baltemore hundred Willm Stoughton Edward Chambers John Handy John Scott James Martin Thomas Williams Henry Ballard David Wilson Geeorge Dashiel Thomas Gillis Mitchell Dashiel Samuel Hopkins of Sinapuxent of Somerset County Gent Greeting Know ye that we have assigned you and Every of you Jointly and Severally our Justices to keep our peace within our County of Somerset and do Equal Law and Right to all the Kings Subjects Rich and poor According to the Laws customs and Directions of the Acts of assembly of this province so far forth as they provide and where they are silent according to the Laws Statutes and Reasonable Customs of England as used and practised within this province for the Conservation of the peace and Quiet Rule & Government of the Kings subjects within our said County and to Chastize and punish all or any person or persons offending against the said Acts Laws Statutes and Customs or any of them According to the Directions thereof and to Call before you or any of you all those who in our County aforesaid shall threaten to do any Bodily harm to any of the Kings Subjects or to burn their Houses or otherwise break our peace and misbehave themselves to find ^sufficient^ security of the peace & Good behaviour to us and the said subjects & if they shall refuse to find such security then you Cause them to be Committed in safe Custody untill they shall be |
