Somerset ss  Memorand.m that at a Sessions of the peace of his Lordship the
Right Honrble the Lord proprietary of the province of Maryland held at
Dividing Creek in Somerset County the third Tuesday of November Ann Dom
one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven before his Lordships Justices the peace in the same
County to keep assigned by the Oath of Twelve Jurors being presented that Sarah Trewitt Late of
Coventry parish in the County af.d spinster the Twentieth Day of September Ann Dom seventeen
Hundred thirty and seven at the parish af.d in the County af.d and within the Jurisdiction of
this Court did Commit fornication with a certain person to the Jurors af.d unknown and did
permit the same unknown person then and there to have carnal knowledge of her body
and to beget then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Sarah to the high displeasure
of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all others in such case offending contrary to
the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good Rule and Goverment and against the
form of the Act of Assembly in such case lately made and provided &a

          Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriffe of Somerset County that he Should take the afd
Sarah Trewitt and her should safe keep so that he might have her body before the Justices
of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at dividing Creek in the Same County the
third Tuesday of March Anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and thirty Seven to answer
unto his said Lordship of and Concerning her Committing of Fornication &a

       And now to witt the third Tuesday of march Came here before his Lordships Justices
at dividing Creek the afd Sarah Trewitt in her proper person and had a hearing of the
Indictment afd and saith that she Cannot deny but that she is Guilty of the premisses in the Indictm.t
afd Specified in manner & form as by the Indictment above against her Supposed and the premisses
afd expressly acknowledgeth and makes Oath that a Certain Laurence Lopy is the begetter of the Child
she stands Indicted for and is willing to pay her fine for the Same &a

       Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court her Seen heard and fully understood

       It is Considered that the afd Sarah Trewitt pay unto his Lordship the Lord Proprietary for her
fine for and by Occasion of the premisses afd by the Court hereupon her Imposed whereof in form aforesd
she is Convicted thirty Shillings Curr.t money of Maryland (to the Use of the County afd) and that the
said Trewitt be taken to Satisfie his said Lordship of the fine afd &a   Whereupon it is ordered by the Court
here that the afd Sarah Trewitt give Security for the payment of the Severall Officers Fees due on the Indictm.t
