    Martin Solomon to               Negro Jacob


       State of Maryland Talbot County To wit
                   I certify that James Burgess a respectable
    citizen of the County and State aforesaid came and
    proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof
    a black man who calls himself James Maxfield
    of a bright complexion five feet eight inches high
    a small scar on the back of his right hand and
    about twenty seven years of age now is the
    identical person that was manumitted by William
    Blake on the twenty sixth day of April Anno
    Domini Seventeen hundred and eighty five
                    In Testimony &.a   this 26th May 1809

State of Maryland Talbot County to wit:
             I hereby Certify that Richard Gore of
The said County & state came and proved
to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof
a ^mulatto^ black man who calls Martin Barton and
who is now about twenty one years of age height
five feet eleven inches high and an half high very
black straight hair  was born free and raised in
the County & state afd      In Testimony &.c this 10.th
