    Talbot County to wit:   The State of Maryland
                   I hereby certify to all persons whom it doth
or may concern that Andrew Crain of the County afd
came and proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof
a dark mulatto Man named Jack fife feet five
and an half inches high with a scar on his left arm
a little above his wrist and a scar over his left eye
about thirty years of age was raised in the County
afd is the Identical person manumitted by himself
in the year Eighteen hundred to be free on the
fifteenth day of May eighteen hundred and ten
                      In Witness &.c this 31.st July 1810

State of maryland Talbot County to wit:
                      I hereby Certify that M.r John Burgess
of the County and State aforesaid Came and proved
to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof a black man
who Calls himself John Madden and who is now
about twenty three years of age five feet Seven Inches
and three quarters of an inch high with one small
scar near his right temple ^one other small scar in his right eye brow^ one other small scar
on the forepart of his neck   also several small
scars on the his hands and rather of a bright Complexion
was born free and that he was raised in the
County and State aforesaid
                                  In Testimony whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of my
office this 28.th day of august 1811
