Talbot County to wit
 I hereby Certify that M.r James M.cDaniel
of the County and State afs.d
Came and proved to my satisfaction that the bearer
hereof (a Mulatto man who Calls himself Joseph Caldwell
who is now about thirty two years of age five feet Seven
and one quarter inches high has one small scar on
the back of his right hand) was born free and raised
in the County aforesaid
                            In Testimony whereof I have hereunto
                            hereto set my hand and affixed the
                            Seal of my office this 12.th day of
                            September anno domini 1812

                                                       Talbot County Court

Talbot County to wit
 I hereby Certify that John
Higgins of the County & State
afs.d Came & proved to my
Satisfaction that the bearer hereof a black Woman
named merita who is now about twenty four
years of age five feet two inches & ¾ quarters of an
inch high has one small scar abou on thereunto on
her left arm about 1 inch & ¾ about the joint
of her wrist also one (larger) scar on the same arm
about 4½ inches above the former is the identical
person set free ^manumitted^ by him the the said John Higgins
on the 25.th day of May 1802 to be free on the
1.st day of Jany 1811
                            In Testimony &.c this 29.th day
                            of March 1814
