State of Maryland Talbot County To wit: I hereby certify that John M G Emory Esq.r came and proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof a black Man who calls himself Major Clayland and who is now about twenty seven years of age five feet eight inches and three quarters of an inch high of a dark Mulatto Complexion a very large scar immediately under his right breast is the identical person named in a Manumission made by Cha.s Emory to sundry negroes to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and ten which said Manumission is duly executed and recorded among the land records of Talbot County afd where the said Major Clayland was raised In Testimony &.c this 30th of Nov 1810 J Loockerman Maryland Talbot County to wit I hereby certify that John Kent of the County & State afd came and proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof a coloured Man who calls himself Jeremiah Caldwell and who is now about twenty three years of age five feet nine inches high one small scar on his forehead in aduction with his left eye and of a dark yellow complexion was born free and that he the said Jeremiah Caldwell was raised in the county & state aforesaid In Testimony &c this 29th Jany 1811 J Loockerman |
