came and proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof a black man named Daniel 5 feet 9 Inches high about 40 years of age with a scar on the back of his left hand near the thumb was raised in the county afs.d and manumitted by the afs.d Ja.s Battie In Testimony &c this 1st day of (Seal) July 1815 J Loockerman clk Maryland Talbot County to wit I hereby Certify that M.r Wm Brown of the County & State afs.d came & proved to my satisfaction that the bearer hereof a black man named James who is now about 41 years of age 5 feet 5¼ inches high has the fifth first joint of the little finger of his left hand off & a large scar between the 3.rd & 4.th joints of the same finger is the identical person manumitted & set free by a certain W.m Brown j.r of the County af.d In Testimony & this (Seal) 15.th of August 1815 J Loockerman Clk |
