State of Maryland
Talbot County to wit
 I hereby certify to all whom it doth
or may concern that William Brown
of the county and state afd came and proved to my satisfaction
that the bearer hereof a black Man who calls himself
Dan.l Potts 5 feet nine inches high with a notable
scar on the inside of his left wrist about 4 or 5
inches from the Joint of the left hand  Also several
scars on each of his hands and about 24 years
of age is the identical person that was set free
by a manumission from Catharine Norris Thomas
Norris & Sarah Norris which is duly enrolled among the
Land record Books of the County & state afores.d

12.th day of Sep.t Anno Dom 1809

Bewley of the County & state
afs.d came & proved to my
          satisfaction that the bearer hereof to wit Fanny
          alias Fanny Jackson a Dark Mulatto Woman
          who is about 26 years of age 5 feet 1½ inches high
          had a is very much marked in the face by the
          Small pox ^has no other notable marks^ is the identical person named ^set
          free^ in a manumission from ^by^ Henrietta Kemp of
          the County afs.d by manumission which was
          duly enrolled among the Land record books of
          the County & State afs.d
