89A State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit Whereas a certain negro man named James has made application to me for a certificate of freedom under an Act of the General Assembly ^of maryland^ passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore Certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a certain Arthur Emory duly executed on the 7th day of September Anno Domini 1799 and proved in my Office on the 18.th day of September 1801 a certain negro man ^Boy^ named James five feet Seven Inches & a half in heigth of a dark complexion round full face thick lips and broad flat nose & the loss of nearly the whole of the nail of the fore finger of his left hand was manumitted and set free by the last will & Testamt of the said Arthur Emory executed and proved at the time above mentioned ^as aforesaid^ His freedom to commence on the Christmas day next after the death expiration of five years from the death of the said Arthur Emory or the death of his wife which ever amy last happen ^he shall attain the age of twenty eight years^. The freedom of the said negro ^is stated by the will of the aforesaid Arthur Emory to have been born on the 10 Feby 1796^ man James is ^his person^ identified by a certain James Hopkins Given under my hand and the seal of my Office this 10.th day of February Anno Domini 1825 Tho C Earle Rr Wills Queen Anns County Maryland Queen Anns County To wit whereas a certain negro man named Thomas commonly called Thomas Nicols has made application to me for a certificate of freedom under an act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at november session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last will & Testament of Elizabeth Herrington executed on the 11.th day of June 1820 and proved in my Office |
