88 20.th day of August 1805. A certain negro named Bill five feet four inches in heigth round face ^dark complexion^ a scar on or near the middle joint of the thumb of the left hand also a scar on the under part of the thumb of the right hand between the middle joint & the end of the thumb was manumitted and set free by the last Will & Testament of the said Tho Baxter his freedom to take place when he shall have attained the age of twenty seven years. His person is identified by a certain John Baxter who declares himself to be a Grandson of the aforementioned Tho Baxter decd. Given under my hand and the seal of my office this 18.th day of June Anno Domini 1824 Tho C Earle Rg Wills for Queen Anns County State of Maryland Queen Anns County To Wit Whereas a certain negro man named John known by the name of John Roberts has made application to me for a Certificate of freedom under an act of the General assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a certain Elijah Commegys duly executed on the twenty ninth day of July One Thousand eight hundred and Eight & proved in my Office on the twenty second day of June in the Year 1811 Also by an Inventory of the said deceaseds Estate returned in my office on the 5.th day of October 1811 in which the said negro John is appraised and valued The said ^negro^ John is five feet three & one fourth Inches in heigth complexion black a scar across the left hand flat nose thick lips and sprightly Eye was manumitted & set free by the last Will and Testament of the said Elijah Commegys to serve until he arrives at the age of thirty Years his time of service to commence from March 1812 his person identified by a certain John B Rush Given under |
