86 State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit whereas a certain negro man named Tom Cain has made application to me for a certificate of freedom under an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will & Testament of a certain Philip Feddeman duly executed on the 18.th day of July in the year 1821 and proved in my Office on the 22.d Jany 1822 a certain Negro Man named Tom Cain of a very dark complexion five feet eight inches & one fourth of an inch in heigth straight and well made a slight scar near the corner of his right eye brow also one on his left breast a little inclined to stammer & usually wears large whiskers was bequeathed to Philip Henry Feddeman to serve him the said Philip Henry Feddeman until he the said Tom Cain shall attain the age of twenty eight years His person is identified by the said Philip Henry Feddeman who at the same time stated that the freedom of the said Negro Man Tom Cain commenced on the 1.st day of Jany 1823.
