83 State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit Whereas a certain negro man named Adam has made application to me for a certificate of freedom under an act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last will & Testament of a certain Thomas Baxter late of Queen Anns County deceased duly executed on the 27.th day of March 1804 and proved in my office on the 20th day of August 1805 a certain negro man named Adam of a yellowish complexion five feet five inches & one fourth of an inch in height slender made a cripple in his right arm was manumitted and set free by the last will & Testament of the said Thomas Baxter his freedom to commence when he shall have arrived at the age of twenty one years His person identified by a certain James Hopkins who upon his oath before the County Court of Queen Anns County now in Session did State that he believed the said negro Adam to be about twenty seven years of age at this time.
