49 The State of Maryland Queen Anns County To Wit Whereas application hath this day been made to me by a Certain Negro Man named Phill for a Certificate of his freedom under an act of the General assembly of the State of Maryland passed November session Eighteen hundred and five I do therefore hereby Certify to all persons whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a Certain William Stevens late of Queen Anns County deceased duly executed on the fourth day of April 1813 and proved in my office on the 25th day of September in the same year a Certain Negro Man named Phill of a dark complexion about thirty one years of age five feet seven Inches and 5/8 high hath well made hath a scar on the left side of the upper lip occasioned by a cut Was manumitted and set free his freedom to commence after his having served four years from the first day of January next ensuing after the death of the deceased his person identified by James Busby In Testimony &c this second day of Jany 1818 Tho C Earle Rg Wills The State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit Whereas application hath this day been made to me for a Certain Negro Man named Nathan for a Certificate of his being a free person under an of the General assembly of this State passed November session Eighteen hundred and five I do therefore hereby Certify to all persons to whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a Certain samuel J Bannister late of Queen Anns County deceased duly executed on the third day of April 1817 and proved in my office on the 8th day of the same Month in the year aforesaid a Certain Negro Man named Nathan about twenty six years of age five feet one Inch & three Eighths of an Inch high of a dark well made of a dark complexion hath a scar on the right arm near the Elbow occasioned by a Burn no other viseable markes was manumitted and set free his freedom to Commence at the end of |
