    State of Maryland
Queen Anns County to wit I hereby certify
that a certain negro man named Richard Arthur
Simmonds about twenty seven years old
was born free of dark complexion and
about five feet eight inches high has a
scar between his third and little finger ^on the left hand^
Richards Mother was free at the time
of his birth and his farther completed
his time of service with my mother
consequently well known to me from
his infancy
                In Testimony whereof I have
    (Seal)   hereunto set my name and affixed
                the seal of my office this
                26.th day of August 1845

State of Maryland Queen Anns County to wit
      I hereby certify that a certain Negro man named Jim
now about twenty six Years old of rather light complexion
five feet Eight inches in hight and has a scar on the largest
Joint of his fore finger of the left hand         was manumitted
and set free by the last will and testament of a
certain Daniel Rochester dated on the 10th day of July
Eighteen hundred and twenty and admitted to probat in
my office on the 8th day of August Eighteen hundred and
twenty his freedom to commence at the age of twenty five years
his person Identified by the Evidence of Dom a certain
Juliann Vickers together with the letter of his former mistress
Ann Rochester
             In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name
(Seal)    & affixed the seal of my office this 11th September 1845
