State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit
             Whereas application has been made to me by a
certain negro woman named Margaret for a certificate
of freedom under an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland
passed at Nov Session 1805   I do therefore certify to all
that a certain negro woman named Margaret now between
23 and 24 years of age dark complexion five feet and a
quarter of an inch in heigth two scars on her left wrist about
an inch apart a scar on the upper part of her breast bone
near the left sholder which the states was occasioned by a
burn when she was quite young and one her upper fore
teeth a little decayed was manumitted and set free by
the last will & Testamt of a certain Wm Hemsley duly executed
on the 7.th day of May 1821 and proved in my office on the 25.th
day of Nov 1825   Her freedom to commence when she shall
have attained the age of twenty three years   Her person
identified by a certain James T Hemsley Brother of the said
Wm Hemsley decd   Given under my hand and the seal of
                                         my Office this 18.th day of Dec
                                         Eighteen hundred & twenty

                                                          for Queen Anns County
       The foregoing certificate was written on parchment
the seal impressed on rose paper & attached by a blue ribbon


State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit
                   whereas application has been made to me
by a certain negro woman named Mary for a certificate
of freedom under an act of the General Assembly of Maryland
passed at Nov Session 1805   I do therefore certify that by the
will of William Ridgaway duly executed on the 22d day of
May 1814 and proved in my Office on the 21st day of June
in the same year a certain negro woman named Mary
now ^aged^ about 30 or 31 years complexion black ^dark^ five feet two & a
half inches in heigth a small scar on her right arm
a little above the wrist joint was manumitted and set
