No 17 State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit whereas application has been made to me by a certain negro man named James for a certificate of freedom under an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it may concern that a certain negro man named James now about twenty six years of age five feet four and a half inches in heigth complexion black well built round face and good countenance has a small scar just above the right Eye brow and a scar on his right arm was manumitted and set free by the last will & Testamt of a certain Arthur Carter duly executed on the 20.th day of April 1804 and proved in my Office on the 21.st day of December 1805 His freedom to commence on his attaining the age of 25 years His person was identified by the Oath of a certain Arthur Carter son of the Testator who states that Estate of the deceased was perfectly solvent. Given under my hand and the seal ( ) of my Office this 25.th day of Augt Anno Domini 1828 Tho C Earle Rr Wills for Queen Anns County The original was written on parchmt & the seal impressed on rose paper & confined with a blue ribbon No 18 State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit Whereas application has been made to me by a certain negro woman named Cassey for a certificate of freedom under an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all persons whom it may concern that a certain negro Girl named Cassia usually called Cassey now about twenty six or seven years of age dark complexion five feet |
