114 State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit whereas application has been made to me by a certain mulatto woman named Mary Ann who called herself Mary Ann Jones for a certificate of freedom under an act of the general assembly of Maryland passed at Nov Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a certain Solomon Holton duly executed on the 21 day of February 1793 and proved in my Office on the 18 day of November 1795 a certain mulatto woman named Mary Ann who calls herself Mary Ann Jones aged about 25 years five feet four inches and three quarters in heigth a good set of teeth a fine suit of hair and a scar on her left arm occasioned by her having been vaccinated was manumitted and set free under the following clause contained in the said will " I give and bequeath unto my said dear wife during her natural life the use of my said negro woman Mincy and her two Children and her future increase and of the increase of the daughters of the said Mincy and from and immediately after the decease of my said dear wife I direct and order that my said negro woman Mincy and her two children with any future increase she may have and the increase of the daughter of the said Mincy shall be free and I do hereby give and grant them their freedom from that proved" The said mulatto woman named Mary Ann was identified by the Oath of a certain Tho Reed Sen to be one of the Grand Children of the said negro woman Mincy mentioned in the foregoing clause contained in the will of the said Solomon Holton who also states that to the best of his recollection the widow of the said Sol Holton died about the year 1810 or 1811 Given under my hand and the seal of my Office this 10th day [Seal] of April Anno Domini 1827 Tho C Earle Rr Wills for Queen Anns County |
