109 Given under my hand & the Seal of my Office this 24.th day of July Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and twenty [Seal] six Tho C Earle Rr Wills Queen Anns County The description of negro Elbert was taken by Tho C Earle Rr Wills State of Maryland Queen Anns County To wit whereas application has been made to me by a certain negro man named Mordecai Moore for a certificate of freedom under and Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November Session 1805 I do therefore certify to all persons whom it doth or may concern that by the last Will and Testament of a certain William Hemsley duly executed on the seventh day of May Eighteen hundred and twenty one and proved in my Office on the twenty fifth day of November Eighteen hundred and twenty five a certain negro man named Mordecai Moore aged about thirty seven years of a dark complexion five feet eight inches and three quarters in height well made has a good set of teeth a slight scar on the middle finger of his left hand and a very large scar on his left thigh which he states was occasioned by a cut with a scythe was manumitted and set free His freedom to commence in one year after the decease of the said William Hemsley The said Mordecai Moore being well known to the Register of Wills whose name is hereto subscribed any further evidence to identify him was deemed unnecessary Given under my hand and the [Seal] Seal of my Office this 20th day of November Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and twenty six Tho C Earle Rr Wills for Queen Anns County |
