To the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Kent County
          I hereby certify that negro Mat otherwise called Mat
Hastings who is now present & applying for a certificate
of freedom is the identical person mentioned in the
manumission of Mary Ann Kennard dated the 25 day of
March 1823
                                                          J S Constable
Mat is five feet nine and one half inches high dark
complexion   about thirty eight years of age

       This is to certify that John Henry Thomas who is
now present & applying for a certificate of freedom was
free born and raised in Kent County and is now about
twenty four years of age
