                               This is to certify that Sarah Nicholson
(formerly Sarah Cox) the bearer hereof was free born
and was raised in Kent County and is now
about 21 or 22 years of age

                                                           August 21st 1849
Filed and recorded August 21st 1849 and certificate
of Freedom issued as follows
Maryland Kent County to wit
                                  I Joseph Redue Clerk of Kent
County Court hereby certify to all whom it doth or
may concern that it hath been proved by
testimony which is satisfactory to me that the
bearer hereof a negro woman named Sarah
Nicholson formerly Sarah Cox aged about
twenty two years about five feet three and
a quarter inches high of a light complexion
was born free and raised in Kent County
                                        In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my
    (seal of               )         name and affix the seal of Kent County
    (Kent County     )         Court this twenty first day of
    (Court Maryland)             August in the year Eighteen
