Kent County, Certificates of Freedom, 1849-1864

Chambers who is now about present and applying for a
certificate of freedom was free born and raised in Kent
County Maryland said John Chambers is now about twenty
three years of age about five feet five inches high of a dark
complexion and has a scar or mark on the right hand
between the lower Joint of the fore finger and the Lower
Joint of the thumb            Witness my hand this 19 day of
March 1851                                          H W Earnest

    To the Clerk of Kent County Court      I hereby certify that
a negro man named Elijah Lewis who is now present and
applying for a certificate of freedom was free born and
raised in Kent County said negro man is now about
twenty two years old is five feet eleven and an half inches
high of a yellow complexion and has a scar on the right
breast above the nipple caused by a burn

    To the Clerk of Kent County Court         I hereby certify that
a negro man named Perry James Freeman who is now
present and applying for a certificate of freedom is the son
of a free woman named Julia Freeman which said Julia
Freeman was manumitted and set free by Miss Caroline
Thompson by deed of manumission dated the 10 day of
December 1828 and that the said Perry James Freeman was
free born he was born in Queen Anns County but has been
raised in Kent County said negro man is now about
twenty years old is five feet eight inches high is of a black
complexion and has a scar or mark on the lower part of
the right side of his face caused by a burn or scald
